Interesting research related to some of Pennycook's earlier work on people's receptivity to pseudo-profound bullshit comes from Evans et al. (2020), which found receptivity to scientific bullshit was negatively correlated with participants’ levels of science literacy but positively correlated with participants’ self-reported belief in science, demonstrating the importance of including science literacy as a component of any strategy for combating scientific mis- and disinformation.
