Hello SciLight community!
We wanted to take a minute to wish you happy holidays before folks start to make their way home to celebrate with friends and family. We hope that you stay cozy and eat something that you enjoy. SciLight has been the greatest gift and joy – we love bringing you our perspectives on science policy and scientific integrity. We’ll be taking our own holiday break until January 6th (unless something really pulls us back to write something before then), so we wish you all well and safe travels (if you are traveling).
We also have an exciting update! SciLight’s founder and co-editor, Dr. Jacob Carter, was appointed by Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland to serve as one of nine experts on an advisory committee that will discuss ways to strengthen science quality and scientific integrity at the Department of the Interior and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This is the first-ever advisory committee on scientific integrity, so we’re very excited to see Dr. Carter’s expertise recognized and what the committee will do.
SciLight began in March with zero subscribers and followers. Today, we have 971 subscribers and 1900 followers! That is amazing—thanks to all of you who share our work with your networks and recommend us. As we have written in many of our pieces recently, it will be extremely important to have all hands on deck next year when President-elect Trump takes office. So, we’re glad that you’re here and joining our community to learn and fight for science.
Have a great holiday break, and we’ll see you in 2025!
Jacob, Andy, and Kathy
